Kalpitiya is a small village in the North West coast of Sri Lanka. It is one of the best kite surfing destination in the world. There are so many kite spots to choose from. Kalpitiya is One of the growing tourism areas of Sri Lanka.You may not see many tourists, large super markets or any other advance services or facilities which you will see in the big cities. Another main advantage is there are many other activities can be done in Kalpitiya during NO WIND days such as Dolphin Watching,Scuba Diving,Lagoon Tour,Camping,National Park Safari.

Season 1 – May to October
Season 2 – December to March

Kalpitiya Lagoon
Most commonly used kite spot in Kalpitiya. Large flat water lagoon which is suitable for beginners and experts. Other side of this lagoon you will find the beach (Indian ocean) pro riders can do kiting in the beach as well.You can see plenty of kite school huts in this lagoon.
Kappalady Lagoon
Small lagoon. Some kite experts prefer this location because of less gusty wind compared to “Kalpitiya Lagoon”. Other side of the lagoon is Indian ocean. You can ride from the lagoon to the open ocean to enjoy the waves and do an amazing downwind until “Donkey Point” or “Kalpitiya lagoon”. Kapalady lagoon is great in summer but isn’t a good option in winter season due to the wind direction. You may find few kite schools in this region.
Vella Island
Paradise for kite surfers. It is a small island (a small sand bank) situated NORTH from “Kalpitiya Lagoon”.Can be reached the place by a 45 minutes boat ride from Kalpitiya. Large area, less crowded, pumping wind. Very good for down winder.

Dream Spot
This spot has access to both lagoon and the beach. Situated NORTH to Kalpitiya lagoon. Can be reached by a 20 minutes boat ride or by 4X4 jeep. Wind is better than Kalpitiya lagoon. Can do downwind to Vella island from Dream Spot.
Donkey Point
A little lagoon which is attached to the Indian ocean. Very good for experience and intermediate riders. Since it is attached to the sea you may have some waves but it allows to do some adventure rides.
